What Is Ilmenite?

Ilmenite is an iron-titanium oxide mineral with the chemical formula FeTiO₃. It is the world's most abundant natural source of titanium, accounting for approximately 90% of global titanium mineral production by volume. Ilmenite occurs primarily in two geological environments: as an accessory mineral in mafic igneous rocks (gabbro, anorthosite, norite), and — more commercially importantly — as a concentrated heavy mineral in alluvial and coastal beach placer deposits, where it accumulates alongside other dense minerals including rutile, zircon, monazite, and garnet in heavy mineral sand (HMS) deposits.

No. Our partner HMS plant uses exclusively mechanical separation processes: gravity separation (spiral concentrators and shaking tables), wet magnetic separation (WHIMS), and dry magnetic drum separation.
